We are flower people through and through, so we cannot resist sharing a few gardening tips to help your garden look its very best this summer.

Water early or late. Watering in the middle of a warm summer day means much of it evaporates before it reaches the roots. Water your garden in the early morning or early evening for the best results.

Deadhead regularly. Removing spent blooms from roses, geraniums, and sweet peas encourages the plant to keep producing new flowers rather than setting seed. It takes just a few minutes and makes a huge difference to how long your plants flower through the season.

Cut flowers from your garden in the morning. The stems are at their most hydrated first thing, which means your cut flowers will last significantly longer in a vase. Always cut at an angle and place them in water immediately.

Feed your flowering plants. Summer-flowering plants are working hard and they need a regular feed with a high-potassium fertiliser (the kind used for tomatoes works brilliantly) to keep them blooming strongly through to autumn.

Embrace wildflowers. If you have a patch of garden you are not sure what to do with, consider sowing a wildflower mix. They are low maintenance, brilliant for pollinators, and genuinely beautiful through the summer months.
